Heather Davies,
Musical Director
Heather Davies is the founder and Musical Director of the Wollondilly Community Music Association, where she has established and developed a thriving community music program bringing together musicians of all ages and abilities.
Her contribution to music and the wider Wollondilly community has been recognised with an Australia Day Award nomination.
A postgraduate-qualified musician and educator with more than 30 years’ experience, Heather has conducted a diverse range of ensembles including Bundeena Community Music Association, Sutherland Shire Brass and the Ramshackle Orchestra.
She is also Musical Director of the Casablanca Big Band.
Heather is co-founding the Inner West Community Orchestra with her long-time friend cellist Karin Kapsi. They share a vision of creating an inclusive and welcoming orchestra where developing and experienced musicians can learn, perform and experience the joy of making music together
Karen Kapsi, President
Karen Kapsi was born into a musical family in Estonia. Music was a big part of her childhood and she pursued classical studies from her earliest years.
She studied classical cello performance in Europe, attending cello masterclasses and performing with different chamber groups and orchestras.
After touring around Australia with a youth orchestra in March 2008 she decided to study contemporary music at JMC Academy in Sydney under Daniel Morris.
In 2014 she received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston US after a masterclass with Prof. Eugene Friesen, but decided to dedicate herself to child development and early childhood music education in Australia.
Karen has toured with different bands and orchestras internationally and recorded both classical and contemporary music as a session musician. Teaching and education has always been a passion together with performing and recording.
